Construction Work Rules
2007 Version
Safety is a key concern when you are working with tools and others. To help us stay safe here are some rules that we will all live by. This will help minimize the problems that can make a big dent in what should be a great week of service to Jesus.
#1-If you have a board in your hands that has nails in it, pull them out. A fourteen penny nail can cause fourteen hundred dollars worth of doctor bills.
#2-Clean all tools after you are done using them and put them away.
#3-Always check the space around you before you use a tool. Make sure no one can be hit by the hammer you are about to swing or the board you are about to move. It’s not their fault if you hit them, it’s your faul, so be responsible.
#4-If you are passing tools or materials to someone make sure they have control of them before you let go. To assure that they do indeed have them they will say “Thanks You”. Until “Thank You” is said you are still in control of the item.
#5-Keep your hand over the end of a long handled tools so that it can’t hit anyone or any window. By covering the end of the tool you will safeguard others.
#6-Test everything-assume nothing. Make sure the ladder will hold your weight, the roof is strong, the board is solid, or the cord is plugged in. Don’t assume anything, make sure.
#7-All Tools can be dangerous therefore use the guards that they have and don’t take them off.
#8-Your crew boss will check out tools so ask them for them, don’t get them on your own. That means you will return them to the crew boss when you are done.
#9-No question is a stupid question, all mistakes made because you didn’t ask a question are stupid mistakes. You can learn anything but you don’t have to make stupid mistakes.
#10-Measure twice-cut once. You can’t stretch a board to a longer length. It’s better to measure twice first.
#11-If you are on a roof or ladder, remember that gravity is now a real issue. Always know where you are on a roof or ladder. Don’t forget you are above the ground because you are so focused on the project.
#12-Always have a three point contact with the roof, ladder, or anything else you are on.
#13-Wear safety goggles or glasses on all projects that could damage eyes and gloves for hand issues.
#14-If you’re not sure: ask.
#15-Good painting preparation make the paint job last longer and look better. Therefore make the preparation as an important a part of the job as the painting.
#16-If something is too big, cut it again. Don’t rely on using a bigger hammer.
